studying theories on international politics can be quite an experience.
i'm more your idealist living off the scraps of the fiction genre, stewing away in ideals that make no sense in this age and aching after people who are by worldly standards, social failures. to then have to study the conscionable efforts of superpowers to outstep the other in an nuclear armament race, balance of power and mindless unilateralism, is by all means, an unpleasant backwash.
the whole concept of nuclear arms is difficult to swallow once put into rational terms. the fact that we as nations, in this day and age, must now acquire technology that can burn the world into smithereens, in order to be listened to, to make threats with, or be left alone. those who aren't in the 'club' can not compete with those in it. so imagine a playground full of third-graders after school. the fat, big kids want to rule the playground and show around their knuckle busters to let everyone know whose boss. only a few other kids can save up, steal, starve to get their own knuckle busters. and then, everyone else in the playground is terrorized into submission whence shown a glint of metal. that's your realist world order: the world in a permanent struggle to affix the balance of power in their favor (all in the name of "survival" ofcourse - we all need a rational vanguard for debased actions).
Screw the idealists then, right? In a way: right. since we all know war is the one thing in the world that'll never go extinct.

I always say “Id” is the meat, scrap it off and the bone of the whole damn “spectacle” is the loneliness …I dun knw this has bin repudiated so much by ppl I knw ..that I jus aint confident enough that u ll buy it but ny ho…. I think the reason or rather the stimulus of all that surrounds us is the lack of or rather the “impossibility” of love ,,the unfathomable solitude of our existence and the futility of all our “reaching out” ….the impossibility of “communication in real time” ..i dun knw …war is insecurity that ensues …tis said “hell is other “ and the strange way in which we are all solipsistic..(for all our knowledge of world
”outside” our head is subjective?) ..i dun knw …but then again the way plato’s symposium maps the labyrinth of love saying that all existence was one unified whole and zeus tore em apart chopping em in half and now all beings are in search of “their” lost other half …and the way mansur al hallaj at the height of intoxication and “self awareness “ proclaimed anul haqq …and how ur body aches and u run thru streets like a stray mongrel but in the end the mirage dissolves into an image of ur own self” …
Its tolerating the existence of another “consciousness” and the knowledge that there is no stable “self” ..(a given raheel or sidrah for that matter” ) …its always “becoming “ neva a “being” … so there is no war to fight to preserve sumthing …(all wars are wars of “being” )
() I dun knw but after speakin so much and pointless I feel empty and guilty in a strange stupid way :S
I never understood why so many Pakistanis are 'proud' that we have nuclear weapons. Some think it makes us invincible, but it doesn't, except in a bastardized MAD sort of way. Which again, isn't REALLY invincibility.
How can anyone be proud that their country now has the technology and the weapons to blow up a nation dozens of times over?
To some extent..... i think its a necessary evil. Especially for us since India acquired nuclear status. Not having this capability would have placed their military capabilities in a whole different league than ours.
Its not something to be proud of though.
asfand, in realpolitik terms, its highly important for any country to gain nuclear power - especially one with an unstable neighbourhood like ours. unfortunately, it IS equal to being on par with india in a way and it was very essential to go nuclear alongwith india - seeing that they can easily donimate us in military force otherwise. thats the whole crazy point - that it all effing makes sense in terms of political theory. i understand and accept he defensive and offensive power that comes with nuclear, but that doesn't mean i enjoy the fact that this is and will be the ballgame of the now and forever
